The Kansas City Chiefs added a new body to their roster on Wednesday, signing outside linebacker Nate Orchard to a contract, according to the team’s official Twitter account.

This move by the Chiefs’ front office is an ideal one, considering the injuries the team is dealing on its defense. Linebackers Justin Houston and Tanoh Kpassagnon both sustained injuries in last week’s 30-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at home and their availabilities for this coming Sunday’s meeting with the New England Patriots in Foxboro are questionable.

Nate Orchard is looking to do his part in improving a Kansas City defense that has been much maligned for the most part of the season. Despite holding down the Jags to only 14 points in Week 5, the Chiefs are still only 25th in the league in scoring offense with 25.8 points allowed per game and last in total offense with a dizzying average of 461.8 yards surrendered per contest.

Orchard entered the pro ranks back in 2015 as a second-round selection by the Cleveland Browns. He spent each of his first three seasons in the NFL in Cleveland before getting waived by the Browns last September. He was signed by the Buffalo Bills shortly after his release from the Browns but was earlier this month.

Orchard has career totals of 5.0 sacks, 69 tackles, five passes defended, two forced fumbles, and an interception in 37 games, thus far in his NFL career.
