On draft night, the Los Angeles Clippers literally purchased the 51st overall pick in Brandon Boston Jr. from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Clippers were high on Boston as he was a former 5-star recruit coming out of high school at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles.
Boston Jr. was then signed by the Clippers on a two-year rookie deal with a third-year team option, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.
However, despite being a five-star recruit, Boston Jr. has not lived up to the hype that people were expecting from him as he was pretty inconsistent in his lone season with Kentucky.
BJ averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists during his freshman season at the University of Kentucky. The 6-foot-6 guard led the Wildcats in steals per game (1.3) and tied for the lead in points per game.
Given his abilities to create his own shots, Boston was projected to be a first-round pick and it was shocking that he was available at the later round of the draft.
Boston Jr. was involved in the fatal car crash that took fellow Kentucky prospect Terrence Clarke before being able to make it in the league. Now he looks to rise up from that adversity and forge his own NBA career.
The Clippers certainly have a gem in BJ as he can prove to everyone that he is the steal of the draft. It will be exciting to see Kawhi Leonard and Paul George mentor the rookie as he can be a rotational piece for them in his first season.
