Thousands of Nipsey Hussle's fans, including several NBA players, took to Twitter to express their disbelief over what happened. They also sent well-wishes to the rapper's family and friends.

Hussle was a prominent name in the rap scene since 2005. He has released several mixtapes and albums and has collaborated dozens of successful artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, YG, Ty Dolla Sign, Meek Mill and Young Thug.

The identity of the suspect is still unknown, but according to witnesses' statements, the person who shot Nipsey was a black male in his 20s. The local police believes that the death of Hussle has something to do with his conflicts with rival gangs, although he was known to be an advocate of preventing gang-related violence.

Last month, Nipsey's album Victory Lap was a nominee for Grammy Awards' best rap album.
