After some of the big name free agents have already agreed to new deals, teams are now turning their attention to players who may not be stars, but could turn out to be key signings for them.

One of them is Dion Waiters, who has yet to secure his next contract, and is reportedly talking with the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, and Sacramento Kings about a possible deal with them.

This past season, the 25-year-old Syracuse product emerged as one of the most important players for the Miami Heat, especially in the second half of the campaign, where they won 30 of their last 41 games.

Although they missed out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker, Waiters proved that he can take on an increased role in the NBA, something that was not given to him during his first four seasons in the league. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists with the Heat, and established himself as a reliable scorer and clutch performer.

Waiters has made it known that he wants to continue his career in South Beach, but the team is currently holding off contract negotiations with him as they await the decision of Gordon Hayward, who is their prime target this offseason. Should Hayward choose the Heat, and they are successful in re-signing Waiters, Miami could become a dark horse in the Eastern Conference.
