Yilliang “Doublelift” Peng retired prior to the beginning of the current season of League but he's not completely out of the loop. The former NA AD Carry offered quick insight into an unfortunate LCS demise caused by mismanaged wards. Doublelift's take proves just how much insight a retired player has over the game. It may be taken as unnecessary side comments to some but there's some potential hidden in his words.

A Shred of Insight

The short stream clip showed little by way of the entire game. Doublelift talked briefly about how an improper ward placed in the river near the Baron pit contributed to Perkz feeling a false sense of security. Perkz suffered a well-executed gank which allowed Team Liquid a leg up in the match.

Professional players weighing in on plays and strategies isn't uncommon. However, the key factor in this instance is that Doublelift is a retired professional player. The ADR has yet to take on any official roles in any capacity in the esports scene. This instance shows that he at least has the insight to be considered for a coaching position or any spot on the on-air team.

Beyond the Stage

Doublelift retired in November 2020 following the retirement of his longtime teammate Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. Unlike Doublelift, Bjergsen quickly found a spot on Team SoloMid as its Head Coach. Players often turn to coaching following their official retirement from competitive play. It's ultimately Doublelift's decision in the end but he will be a capable coach or analyst should he choose to go down either path.

The retired Carry's farewell statement capped off with his unending gratitude towards fans and the game itself. He traveled the world and met countless people in his time as a professional player. For many, dedicating your all, and a portion of your life for one cause can get exhausting. It's understandable why some players choose to step away from the game completely. However, the scene has been helped immensely by players that turned their talents towards helping the next generation of players.

This is just one of the ways Doublelift can continue his glorious League of Legends legacy. Maybe Cloud9 will hire him after he tore apart their ward placement?
