The FIFA series has been ridiculed in recent times due to the repetitive unrealistic gameplay mechanics that it adapts from the previous entries. Though the trailers reveal some changes in the game's overall approach with football, some have argued that none of the changes can mask the lack of creativity and innovation that the recent entries have offered.

And this was clearly evident from the release of FIFA 21 where the only new features were the defending mechanics, the roster updates, and the arrival of Manchester United's charismatic legend Eric Cantona. The game still feels like an unrealistic casual football simulation not only in terms of ball progression and player movements but also in terms of presentation as some of the players never looked like their real life counterparts. The only saving grace can be found in the game's licenses as FIFA is blessed with two of the biggest governing bodies in soccer namely FIFA (obviously) and UEFA.

With the lack of improvements in EA's flagship soccer game, comes an opportunity for them to address some issues through the next generation consoles. Fans of the series will have to wait until December 4, 2020 for the worldwide release of the game's PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series version.

Here are the things that you need to know regarding the game's transition to the next generation.

DETAILS

EA proudly announced that the game's transition to the next generation will showcase faster loading times, but the most important addition stem from their decision to make the game more realistic in terms of player movement, stadium experiences, and player details as seen from their Twitter post below featuring the faces of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Atletico Madrid's up-and-coming superstar Joao Felix.

DUAL ENTITLEMENT

Good news PlayStation 4 users as FIFA's dual entitlement feature allows the player to spend no penny when transitioning to the next generation. This means that your PlayStation 4 copy can immediately be upgraded for the next generation for free. Just make sure that you purchase the console from the same brand as the feature doesn't support PlayStation to Xbox transitions and vice versa.

The player's progress are likewise included as well however there are limitations. Only the Ultimate Team and Volta features will translate to the next generation, whereas the other game modes like Career Mode, Pro Clubs, Online Seasons, and Co-Op Seasons will be excluded.

EA Games mentioned that there were trade-offs that took place where they either had to choose between allowing the transfer of the excluded game modes or establish new features and improve the game. They further mentioned that the progress from Volta and FUT are more suited for the next generation given that these game modes are server based.
