Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was hoping to avoid a trip to the Injured List, but it looks like that won't be possible after all. The Brewers placed Adames on the 10-day IL on Wednesday with a high-ankle sprain, something that will have fantasy baseball managers scrambling to the waiver wire, per MLB Trade Rumors.

Adames' move to the IL will be retroactive to Monday, May 16, so he'll be eligible to return to the Brewers before the end of the month. In his absence, Keston Hiura will be returning to the big leagues, getting another chance with the Brewers.
Adames picked up the injury during Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins after sliding into home plate. It's a big loss for the Brewers, as well as fantasy owners who were relying on the shortstop to man one of their middle infield positions.
Article Continues BelowThis season, the Brewers shortstop has slashed .208/.304/.462 and was the team's leading home run hitter with 9 on the year. He has recorded 24 RBI, 1 stolen base, and has drawn 17 walks in 2022, proving an effective shortstop for fantasy baseball managers despite his low batting average.
With Adames out for at least the next 10 days, managers will likely have to dip into the waiver wire in order to find a suitable replacement for the 26-year-old, who has been a nice source of power from the middle infield.
Some possible replacements to look at for Adames could include Colorado Rockies SS Brendan Rodgers, Toronto Blue Jays infielder Santiago Espinal, Giants shortstop/2B Thairo Estrada, or even Adames' teammate in Milwaukee, Jace Peterson, who has eligibility in a large variety of positions and could be a useful plug-in option for the time being.
