Back in November, the Florida basketball team landed a commitment from a very intriguing prospect. Olivier Roux will be joining the Gators next season, and what makes him such an interesting player is his height. If you thought Zach Edey was tall, just wait until you see how tall Roux is. The Florida basketball website now has his official height up, and he is listed at 7'9″. Roux is also the Guinness World Record holder for tallest teenager.

“Canadian Gators commit Olivier Rioux's height has officially been listed on the team's website,” The Score said in a tweet. “SEVEN. FOOT. NINE.”

Olivier Roux surprisingly hasn't received a lot of attention during his recruitment, so the Florida basketball team could've struck gold here. Even if Roux had never touched a basketball in his life, it still would seem like he would have the potential to be a star as no one is going to be anywhere near his height while playing college basketball. He is going to be a matchup nightmare.

Surprisingly, Olivier Roux is only a three-star prospect according to 247 Sports, and he isn't even ranked nationally. He is the #56 center in the 2024 class and the #29 player in the state of Florida. He just finished up his high school basketball career at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and he will be staying in the sunshine state to play for the Gators.

Obviously, height isn't everything, but it is surprising to see a high school player that is 7'9″ not ranked higher. He is listed at 7'6″ in his recruiting profile, so he apparently has still been growing. Perhaps those extra few inches will give him an even bigger edge over his competition.

Regardless of his ranking, people are going to want to watch Roux play. It's not often that you get to see someone nearly eight feet tall play basketball, and Roux certainly has the build to be a star at Florida.

Florida basketball 2024 recruiting class

Olivier Roux is not the only commit in the 2024 Florida basketball recruiting class. The Gators have landed one other commitment as well as three-star shooting guard Isaiah Brown is coming to play for the Gators. He is the #116 player in the 2024 class, the #22 SG and the #15 player in the state of Florida.

Those two aren't the only new members of the team that Florida will be welcoming. The Gators are also bringing in three players from the transfer portal as Alijah Martin, Rueben Chinyelu and Sam Alexis are also transferring. Martin is coming over from Florida Atlantic, Chinyelu from Washington State and Alexis from Charlotte.

The Florida basketball team had a good year last season as they made it all the way to the SEC title game before losing to Auburn in the final. They made it to the NCAA Tournament as a seven seed, but they lost a heartbreaker against Colorado in the first round.

Now, the Gators are hoping to get better during the offseason and take the next step next year. These newcomers will help, and Olivier Roux is certainly one of the most intriguing ones.
