The Georgia football team has been making a lot of headlines this offseason, but unfortunately, they have been for all the wrong reasons. The Bulldogs have had a big problem with driving-related issues in recent years, and while that is still a big issue, the latest arrest to a Georgia player was because of cruelty to children and misdemeanor battery charge. That Bulldogs player is wide receiver Rara Thomas, and he has since been dismissed from the team.

“Senior receiver Rara Thomas has been dismissed from the Georgia football team in the aftermath of his second arrest in two years for a domestic violence incident,” A report from The Athletic stated.

Rara Thomas originally started his college football career at Mississippi State, and his first arrest took place shortly after transferring over to the Georgia football team. There was an incident with his girlfriend in a dorm room, and he was arrested on charges of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor family violence. The charges were eventually dropped.

Thomas' second arrest came last Friday. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with Thomas shortly after the incident, and he informed him that he can no longer be part of his team.

“I met with Rara on Tuesday and had a chance to talk to him face to face, which was important, but I informed him that he could no longer be a part of this team, and he understood that,” Kirby Smart said.

Rara Thomas' lawyer also released a statement

The lawyer that is representing Rara Thomas is Kim Stephens, and he released a statement on the matter. He believes that things will be able to resolved when all information is known.

“I am pleased that bond could be set and Mr. Thomas released while we fully investigate the case,” The statement read. “We expect that this matter can be resolved swiftly and fairly once all facts are known.”

Thomas had a decent year last season in his first and only campaign with the Georgia football team. He caught 23 passes and racked up 383 yards and one touchdown. He had better success at Mississippi State as he scored at least five touchdowns in both of his seasons with the Bulldogs. In his two years there, he caught 62 passes for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns.

With all of the legal trouble that Georgia football players have been getting in lately, a lot of people have been questioning the leadership of Kirby Smart. Yes, he has fielded a great football team, but it's not worth it if these players are getting into this much trouble off the field. The arrests are one thing, but they also have an extremely low graduation rate.

People were wondering what kind of punishments Smart was handing out, because clearly something wasn't working. Smart certainly heard the noise, and he decided that it was best for Rara Thomas to no longer be part of the team.

The football season is almost here as things kick off this month, so hopefully Georgia can stick to business before the new year gets started.
