Leave it to Colin Cowherd to get that hot take swirling around social media out for the specific day. And on this particular afternoon, it comes by way of the NFL.

According to Cowherd, those New York Football Giants are a “dark horse” squad to make the Super Bowl, as transcribed by Dan Schneier of 247Sports.

“And by the way they have four elite players on defense: Snacks Harrison, Ogletree the linebacker, Janoris Jenkins is a great corner and Landon Collins the safety,” Cowherd said. “I said this last year, and everybody rolled their eyes, they are a dark horse Super Bowl team.”

Remember, this is the same man who said the New York Jets would finish 0-16 a year ago. Whatever the extreme is, Cowherd takes it even further. Right now, the Giants are considered a sneaky solid choice to make a run. Therefore, Cowherd goes all-in like he usually does.

“Yeah, 11-5 two years ago,” Cowherd said. “I get Odell Beckham back, Nate Solder left tackle…they probably drafted the second-best offensive lineman in the college draft – the kid from UTEP [Will Hernandez]. People raved about him. My NFL guys raved about him, I never saw him play. They got Saquon Barkley.

“Listen – and they got Pat Shurmur, who a lot of people think is the Shanahan-Sean McVay of the hires this year. Their only issue is the division. It’s brutal. I think Alex Smith makes Washington better. Philadelphia is still great and I think Dallas has a puncher’s chance to go far in the playoffs, so ….New York was 11-5 two years ago. Last year was just a Ben McAdoo meltdown. That’s over. “

Forget your feelings about Colin Cowherd. The important point here is the G-Men actually owning the proper pieces to think this way.

Newly-minted general manager Dave Gettleman finally did what Jerry Reese didn't: he built the O-line. Literally, as soon as he took office, there was no messing around. Nate Solder was signed to the richest tackle contract in history and Will Hernandez was drafted in the second round. This, coupled with possessing beastly Saquon Barkley, provides great reason to think the Giants are a playoff team.

And don't forget about this defense. Just two short years ago, Landon Collins and company represented one of the best units in the league.

Dark horse Super Bowl team, the New York Giants? Not even a question about it. Yes.
