The New York Giants made the decision to take former Penn State standout running back Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick in this year's draft.

Barkley is widely viewed as being arguably the most offensively talented player behind his versatility as both runner and receiving out of the backfield. He put his unique catching ability on display during OTA's on Monday by smoothly making one-handed catches that were reminiscent of what his teammate star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been known to make look routine.

There are some high expectations laid ahead of Barkley to potentially bring stability to the running game that the franchise hasn't had since the days of Tiki Barber. During his three-year collegiate career at Penn State, he developed into the nation's top running back that was topped by a standout 2017 campaign where he recorded nearly 1,300 rushing yards along with hauling in 54 catches for 632 yards along with two kickoff return touchdowns.

This versatility could see the Giants utilizing him in different ways in the offensive game plan to maximize his talent. All of his has already placed him as the betting favorite to capture the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award due to what's anticipated to being a huge role to start his career.

His presence alongside Beckham Jr. should help the Giants bounce back in a major way from their disappointing 2017 where they finished with one of the league's worst records. Much of this saw them struggle tremendously offensively with their lack of a true running game being one of the biggest reasons for their shortcoming on that side of the ball.

Training camp and the preseason should provide Barkley the opportunity to acquiesce to the game plan under new head coach Pat Shurmur in what should be a new-look Giants' offense.
