The 2017 NFL season was not, by any means ,a successful one for the New York Giants. Fortunately, they now have a clean-sheet to work with for next year.

Among the notable headlines surrounding the Giants was the turmoil with cornerback Eli Apple. As a result, Apple has emerged as a possible trade candidate for the Tennessee Titans this offseason, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe:

“One name that would make sense for both sides is Giants cornerback Eli Apple. It appears the 2016 first-round pick has fallen out of favor in New York after a tumultuous 2017 season. If he's available for the right price, Tennessee should call.”

There was plenty of promise surrounding the selection of Apple with the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. However, the tide quickly changed after several spats with teammates and coaches.

To make matters worse, his performance on the field hardly reflected that of a first-round pick. Apple registered just 100 tackles, 15 pass deflections, and an interception in 25 games with the Giants. Still, as a former first-round selection, another NFL team will provide the Ohio State product a chance and it seems Tennessee may still have some interest in his potential upside moving forward.

Apple already has several ties to the Titans' organization. Their current defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs worked with Apple when both were still at Ohio State and helped groom him into a top-10 overall pick. He also goes way back with cornerback Logan Ryan, who has been his mentor since attending the same high school. The Titans also have a serious need for some depth in the secondary going into the offseason. That said, do not be surprised if both sides pull the trigger on a deal early on.
