The Vegas Golden Knights moved on from the franchise's second-ever head coach in Peter DeBoer this year and moved quickly in the offseason to land a replacement. On Tuesday, the Golden Knights announced they have hired former Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy to take over their vacant position.

“The Golden Knights are very pleased to have Bruce [Cassidy] come in to coach our team,” said Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon. “His success in Boston over six years is extremely impressive. His teams have had a clear identity, having been among the very best in the NHL in terms of goals for, goals against, goal differential and special teams. This is the right coach for our team at this time.”

Cassidy will be the third head coach in Vegas Golden Knights history since their establishment as a franchise back in 2017-18. Current New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant led them to a Stanley Cup Finals berth in their debut season, but he was let go midway through his third year in charge, replaced by DeBoer.

DeBoer lasted two seasons with the Golden Knights before he was shown the exit door following a disappointing season in 2021-22, during which Vegas missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Cassidy will join the Golden Knights after a six-year stint as head coach of the Boston Bruins that saw him log a 245-108-46 record across 399 games. He led the team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs each season of his reign. The Bruins were named Eastern Conference Champions in 2018-19, though lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the St. Louis Blues, who rostered current Golden Knight Alex Pietrangelo.

Expectations will be high for Cassidy in Year 1 in his new role, but with the talent surrounding him on the roster, including the likes of Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, Pietrangelo and Jonathan Marchessault, among many other studs, he should have no issues turning things around quickly
