Golf fans know the struggles Jordan Spieth dealt with after he won Claret Jug back in 2017. It took four years since that victory at The Open Championship for Spieth to win a PGA Tour event again, as he finally broke his cold spell with a win last April at the 2021 Valero Texas Open. He is still searching for his first major win, though, since that win at Royal Birkdale, and if his first round at Royal St. George's Golf Course Thursday is any indication, Spieth could be on his way to winning this year's edition of the Open Championship.

Jordan Spieth finished the first round with a 65, putting him five-under-par. According to Justin Ray of Twenty First Group,  the Texas-native is 2 of 2 when he scored 65 or better in the first round of any major.

There's a long way to go for Spieth, as we are just on the first day of 2021 The Open Championship, but you can feel that Jordan Spieth is on a mission to reclaim his spot as among the best in the sport. Right now, he's ranked 23rd in the world. Winning at Royal St. George's Golf Course would surely boost his chances of moving up the official world golf rankings.

Jordan Spieth flew across the pond for The Open Championship with eight opt 10s and a couple of top 3s in 20 starts, so far this season. He's made the cut in all of his previous 13 starts, dating back to his T4 at the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open in February.
