The Atlanta Hawks are slated to take on the Chicago Bulls in Atlanta on Friday night. Unfortunately for the team, they will be without the services of John Collins in the game.

The Hawks are coming off of an overtime win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday that saw their two young franchise centerpieces, Trae Young and Collins, both put up 30-plus point games.

This is a big loss for the Hawks, as the second-year power forward has taken a monster leap forward in his development. For the season, John Collins is averaging 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He has also been shooting 37.9 percent from deep and draining one 3-pointer per game.

On course to become a dominant 20-and-10 type big man, Collins is showing serious potential as a reliable scorer for Atlanta.  He has five 30-point games this season after a year that saw him fail to reach that mark even once. He also has tallied 23 games scoring 20 or more points, compared to just two last campaign.

Some of his numbers have put him towards the top of the league. His overall field goal percentage of 56.9 percent is the 12th best. He is also 11th in offensive rebound percentage, with a rate of 12.3 percent.

With the playoffs out of the picture, a mark in the loss column would allow them a greater shot at a top pick, so this might be a win-win scenario for Atlanta as they march into the game without Collins.
