Trae Young's dad believes the New York Knicks made a huge mistake making a villain out of his son and Atlanta Hawks star. After all, Young hasn't even reached his prime yet.

To recall, during Game 1 of their playoff series, the Knicks faithful in Madison Square Garden showered Young with several “F–k you” chants. In response, the Hawks star banked the game-winning floater to take the 107-105 win before silencing the crowd with a shush gesture.

Rayford Young has no problem with what Knicks the fans did, but he dropped a stern warning to remind them that it is Trae's first playoffs and is only the beginning of the Hawks guard tormenting franchises like New York.

“When they did it to Reggie Miller, Reggie Miller was in his prime. He was 28, 29 years old, near the back end of his career,” Rayford said referencing the  “Reggie Sucks” chants back in the day, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. “They’re going to have to see Trae (22 years old) for the next 10 or 15 years. He hasn’t hit his grown man weight yet. He hasn’t got his grown man strength yet. This is only the beginning. He should be a senior in college right now.”

Also, if the ‘Bockers crowd in MSG has plans to continue the NSFW chants against Trae Young, Rayford tells them to better be prepared to get disrespected back. The Hawks sharpshooter did it once, and there's no stopping him from doing so again.

“For me, and I know it’s the same thing with Trae, (the ‘F–k Trae Young chants) just gave me a burst of energy and a burst of emotion,” Rayford added. “It was just like go out and kill these dudes, man. Just growing up, the way my dad taught me and I taught Trae, if somebody disrespects you, just show them disrespect back. That basically what it was. I wanted so bad for them to win that game that I even got emotional just hearing it.”

This could be the start of an intense rivalry between Trae and the Knicks, and it's a storyline to watch out for as the playoffs series unfolds. Will Young get the las laugh? Or will the New York crowd get what they want and annoy the hell out of Trae to get him off his game? One this is for sure: this is going to be fun!
