Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young left Friday's home matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks mid-game with a right ankle sprain, the team announced.

The 21-year-old rising star, selected fifth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, was seen hitting the deck and turning his ankle awkwardly in the contest against last year's MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the top-seeded Bucks in the Eastern Conference.

Trae Young has been averaging 29.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game during the 2019-20 season, shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from 3-point range. The former Oklahoma Sooner has been considered an All-Star candidate headed into January, putting dazzling performances in just his second year in the league.

The severity of the 6-foot-1 Young's ankle injury is unknown at the moment, although it was serious enough to pull the floor general from Friday's game against the Bucks in the third quarter (it's worth mentioning the Hawks were down 23 points at halftime).

Young's ankle sprain comes over a month after he previously left a game against the Miami Heat in October, appearing in only 11 minutes before tweaking the leg-foot joint. Young missed the following game (again versus the Heat) but returned right after that and has since appeared in every game for the Hawks.

Interestingly enough, ankle injuries dogged the early part of two-time MVP point guard Stephen Curry — the player Young is most often compared to through the very early stages of his professional career. It took years for the three-time NBA champion to strengthen both ankles and condition his body to withstand the contact and length of an 82-game season.
