Atlanta Hawks veteran Vince Carter sent out a tweet to thank Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets for the outpouring of love they showed to him in Sunday night's game.

In what was his final matchup against his former team inside the Barclays Center, Carter checked out to an ovation with just under two minutes remaining:

Carter played for the Nets from 2004 to 2009, leaving several lasting memories in his wake. His ferocious dunks led him to become one of the more popular players in franchise history. To this day, most Nets fans love and respect his legacy, and he could get his jersey retired one day.

Kyrie Irving, who grew up in New Jersey, says he has always been a die-hard Nets fan, and he loved watching Vince play in his prime:

“I was a kid in my room watching VC and the New Jersey Nets,” Irving said after Sunday's game. “I'm a die-hard New Jersey Nets fan — before it came to Brooklyn.

“That was a kid's dream: to go see Vince Carter and Jason Kidd play for the Nets.” Irving added. “Specifically, Vince Carter. He used to do some amazing things. It was incredible to watch as a kid.”

Carter logged 14 minutes in Sunday's 108-86 loss, notching eight points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field (2-of-5 from beyond the arc), two rebounds and three steals. Irving, who was making his return after a two-month absence due to a shoulder injury, led the Nets in scoring, posting 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting.

Carter and the Hawks will be back in action on Tuesday night, when they'll serve as hosts to the Phoenix Suns. Tip-off inside State Farm Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Atlanta will be looking to end a four-game losing streak as a rough season continues.
