Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic insisted he won't return to play for his native Slovenia for these World Cup qualifiers. Slovenia, who took home the gold for the first time during the EuroBasket 2017 tournament, has gone 2-6 throughout qualifiers and is in danger of missing a trip to the World Cup thanks to the absences of Dragic and phenom Luka Doncic.

Dragic took to Twitter to shut down any possibility of a return, claiming he had informed the federation of his retirement, even before the start of the EuroBasket tournament.

“Everyone was informed, and this is before the EP, this would be my last big competition for Slovenia,” said Dragic in a tweet. “I did my best for 12 years for the national team. Thanks for the offer.”

Dragic and Doncic were the catalysts of a triumphant run by the Slovenian team, who went a perfect 8-0 after defeating European powerhouses like France, Spain, and Serbia twice (once in group play and then again in the final).

Slovenia is on the brink of elimination after suffering an 86-77 loss to Turkey on Monday, trotting a Dragon-less squad against some of the best squads in the world.

The 32-year-old still has plenty of juice in his legs, though it stands to reason that he would try and spare his body of any extra activity if he is hoping to elongate his career in the NBA.

Dragic is coming off another solid season for the Heat, putting up 17.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
