After signing a hefty five-year $85-million dollar contract in 2015, the relationship between Goran Dragic and the Miami Heat could come to an abrupt halt.

According to a league source, as reported by Ashish Mathur of Amico Hoops, the team has made their star point guard available in trade talks and could move him sooner rather than later.

Since coming to the Florida-based franchise via a multi-player trade in 2015, Dragic has been widely productive with 17.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.0 steal per game on 47 percent shooting from the field. He has been their primary playmaker, thanks to his ability to slash to the basket and set his teammates up for easy shots.

Still, the former Most Improved Player of the Year is already 32 years old and may no longer be in Miami’s long-term plans. After failing to develop into a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, many experts believe that it may be time for the Heat to rebuild. However, they have several bad contracts on their roster – including Hassan Whiteside, James Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and Kelly Olynyk – that prevents them from doing so.

Their best chance at obtaining future assets and first-round picks, which is how NBA reconstructions usually go, will be to trade Dragic. He offers arguably the highest upside between their current core as well as the most appealing skill set.

Should the Heat decide to trade Goran, the Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic, or New Orleans Pelicans, teams in dire need of a quality floor general, are very possible destinations. They also have enough young talent and draft picks that could make the deal work.

Only time will tell how many more days Dragic has in a Heat uniform. Though, it may not be the worst thing for his career to have a change of scenery.
