The Miami Heat are one of the teams that are currently considered a favorite to land Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant. After all, KD himself identified Miami as one of his preferred destinations. At this point, it appears that the Heat are working hard to make this blockbuster deal come to fruition.

Any potential Kevin Durant trade deal will obviously require a massive haul. This is one of the best players in the NBA today, and there's no doubt that the Nets are not going to give him up for cheap. For their part, it seems as though the Heat are going to have to give up starting point guard Kyle Lowry in a potential deal — at least according to an anonymous NBA executive:

“I think Lowry is the one to go if Miami moves forward on it,” one Eastern Conference executive told Heavy.com. “The Heat can’t match salary with the Nets for Durant so they will have to send one of those three guys back. Lowry is the most expendable. If Lowry is in the deal, Miami could be in the best position to make a KD trade happen. You’re not going to give up Bam and the Nets do not want Butler with his age (32) and his contract (Butler is just entering a four-year, $140 million extension with the Heat.) So you can do Lowry and the guys they were going to give for James Harden, (Duncan) Robinson and Tyler Herro, and I am not sure the Nets are going to get a better deal than that.”

To be clear, however, previous reports suggest that Durant himself indicated that he would like to play with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Lowry in Miami — a bit of a precursor, if you may, for a potential move to South Beach for the former league MVP.

Be that as it may, you have to wonder what type of package the Heat can come up with if they weren't going to include any one of their Big 3. It appears that something's got to give, and right now, Lowry is looking like the odd man out.
