Despite efforts made by both the Toronto Raptors and Kyle Lowry himself to quell trade rumors, talk of a potential move away from Toronto for the veteran point guard continues to rumble. The Miami Heat have now emerged as a frontrunner to acquire Lowry, given how the former All-Star reportedly prefers a move to South Beach over any other landing spot.

According to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer, Lowry could be making his way to Miami because of one key factor:

Lowry recently said he wants to retire with the Raptors even if he needs to sign a one-day contract. But if he gets dealt, league sources say his preferred destination is Miami because of his close friendship with Jimmy Butler.

As the above report states, Lowry himself already indicated that he is willing to do anything (contract-wise at least) just to be able to stay in Toronto. However, in spite of his seemingly unwavering loyalty, the trade talks just won't go away. The fact that he recently sold his Toronto home certainly did not help.

Should the Heat make a move for Lowry, then it could be viewed as a significant upgrade in its backcourt. Lowry would form a dangerous partnership with Goran Dragic, assuming that the latter isn't dealt.

It is also worth noting that LaMarcus Aldridge has also been linked to a move to Miami, with the San Antonio Spurs already indicating that the vet has played his last game with the team.

The Heat do not appear to be messing around here as they look to establish themselves as a legitimate threat to the crown this season.
