The Virginia Tech Hokies football team has parted ways with head coach Justin Fuente after just six seasons. Shortly after the Hokies made the announcement on Tuesday, Fuente released a heartfelt message to Hokies nation.

During Fuente's stint as head coach of the Hokies, he was able to compile a record of 43-31. He was able to guide the team to four bowl appearances, going 1-3 in those games.

At one point this season, Virginia Tech managed to go as high as No. 15 in the AP Top 25, but a 1-4 stretch, including three consecutive losses to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, and the Syracuse Orange likely played a big role in Virginia Tech's decision to fire him.

If anything, at least Fuente’s last game as head coach of the team resulted in a win, as Virginia Tech defeated the Duke Blue Devils at home last Saturday, 48-17.

Fuente has hired by the Hokies in 2015 as the successor of the legendary Frank Beamer. Virginia Tech went 10-4 in Fuente's first season with the team, but that was also the last time the Hokies achieved double-digit wins in the season.

While Virginia Tech looks for a permanent replacement for Fuente, the Hokies will have co-defensive line coach J.C. Price as the team's interim head coach.
