In the true spirit of March Madness, the Houston Cougars pulled off a strong upset over the top-seeded Arizona Wildcats on Thursday night.

The Houston Cougars led from the jump and never looked back, completing a wire-to-wire win over one of the favorites to win the entire NCAA tournament. They never ran away with an insurmountable lead, but managed to stave off every Arizona threat in their 72-60 win.

Houston Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson fired a strong message after the game after their Arizona win and ahead of their clash against the equally formidable 2-seed Villanova Wildcats.

Kelvin Sampson: “(This team) is not afraid of anybody.”

Jamal Shead picked a good time to have to pick up the scoring load for the Houston Cougars. The sophomore guard poured in a career-high 21 points, four rebounds, and six assists. It's just the second time in his career that he's scored 20 or more points, with the first being a 20-point effort in garbage time during a 112-42 Cougars win last season.

Although he shot poorly from the field with a 5-for-16 shooting clip, he did make nine of his 10 free throw attempts and more importantly has the seal of approval from coach Kelvin Sampson.

“Once he found his way, he got his wings, and he started flying,” said the Houston coach of Snead.

Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars have no plans of stopping their run short just yet as they look to make another Final Four return.
