New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has been working his way back from a foot injury since last week. However, it appears his status for Week 14 is still up in the air.

The Jets have finally taken Darnold off the injury report. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, head coach Todd Bowles was non-committal regarding his potential return.

“Between him and Josh, they both had good weeks,” Bowles said at his press conference.

“Well everything,” Bowles said. “Obviously as a rookie quarterback you’re going to have improve on everything every week, and that’s any one of our rookies at any position. He’s got to get better with reads, and he will with playing time and everything else and progressions and getting in and out of the huddle, which he had been doing a good job at before he got hurt.”

Darnold has been a full participant in practice all week after missing three games with the foot injury. It is understandable for the Jets to take a cautious approach with his return. However, his ability to take part in every drill indicates that he may be ready to play. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Bowles wants to insert him back in yet.

It is no secret that the Jets offense has struggled over throughout the 2018 campaign. Even when Darnold was under center, their lack of firepower around him became evident. Quarterback Josh McCown has not had any better luck trying to find a rhythm. As a result, it seems New York could be pondering whether or not it is worth even having Darnold return with the offense in such a state of flux.

The Jets have already committed this season to his development. It would not make much sense for them to risk further injury to Darnold down the final stretch of a lost year.
