The New York Knicks are a major disappointment once again. After spending the entire 2018-19 season freeing up enough cap space to sign two superstars, they ended up with none. Now, they have the worst record in the league.

Things would've looked different had the Knicks been able to sign their top free-agent targets this summer: Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. However, both stars decided to join the Brooklyn Nets.

A lot of people aren't surprised the Knicks blew things up, including someone who spent a significant amount of time playing for them, Carmelo Anthony.

Melo said that he knows why KD and Kyrie chose to play for the Nets, and that's because they want to win and have fun.

“I don’t think it surprised me. We all read Durant’s quotes. We know what he said. Whether you agreed with it or not, people have different perspectives about it. It’s not just ‘the Knicks and we’re going to get somebody,’ and it’s a guarantee,” Anthony said, per Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“Nowadays players aren’t thinking about that. They want to go into a situation where they can enjoy and have fun and not have to deal with that. You have to deal with it in Brooklyn anyway, but it’s not the same. It’s not the same.”

Anthony was traded to the Knicks back in 2011 and played there for six and a half seasons. During that span, he didn't have much success. They only made the playoffs twice and were never a serious threat to compete for a championship.

Melo knows first-hand how dysfunctional the Knicks are right now because he has been there. And when someone who used to love playing for them says something like this, you know that there's definitely something wrong with the franchise.
