Carmelo Anthony has returned to Madison Square Garden a few times as an opponent in the years since his departure from the New York Knicks. Tuesday night, though, might have been the biggest ovation he has received yet, this time in front of a packed crowd as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. With the first quarter making its way past the eight-minute mark, Anthony made his debut in the game to an ovation that sounded like this:

The extremely vocal New York crowd has never been afraid to show love for one of the best players in franchise history and tonight was no different. The crowd let him hear their love from the very second he stepped onto the court and into the game and it was magical.

After all, we don't even know how many more times will Carmelo play at MSG. With his career at the tail end of a hall-of-fame trajectory. With a championship being the only thing that he has yet to accomplish in the NBA, would he possibly walk away if he gets his ring–making this his last game ever at MSG? Well, that is certainly possible, if ever so unlikely seeing as how well Anthony has played so far in the 2021 season.

Knicks fans sure made it a game to remember for Carmelo, regardless of whether it was his last time in NY or not, and it was good to see him get some love in a place that he tried so hard to bring a championship to.
