New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris is shedding light on his decision to part ways with agent Rich Paul after reneging on his deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

Morris had initially agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal with the Spurs, but he backed out of the agreement after the Knicks offered him a more lucrative one-year deal worth $15 million.

There were plenty of rumors on why Morris parted with his agent, including the reports that Paul allegedly told him not to take a three-year, $41 million deal from the Los Angeles Clippers — something the 29-year-old forward denied. In fact, it was the opposite.

“All this stuff that (Paul) didn’t want me to go to the Clippers and didn’t want me to go against LeBron, that’s not true,” Morris told Shams Charania of The Athletic. “He never told me not to take the deal. For as long as I’ve known Rich — and that’s still someone I have love for and that’s still my guy — he has been great in terms of advice. He told me he wanted me to take the Clippers deal. He gave me his advice.

Morris  added that his decision to sign with the Knicks was “the best decision for me and my family.”

Paul is the founder of Klutch Sports Group, which represents players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He was believed to be the mastermind behind Davis' trade demand from the New Orleans Pelicans, which was executed in June after the season concluded.

Morris played for the Boston Celtics from 2017 to 2019.
