New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett's recovery from a sprained ankle appears to be on track, with a recent report emerging that the highly touted 19-year-old is set to make his return to the court at some point this week.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reports that the former Duke standout is very close to a comeback, and that according to Barrett himself, he has every intention of taking part in the upcoming Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star Weekend:

“One of the things that I dreamed about,” Barrett said. “I’m very thankful. I feel very honored that I’m going to get the opportunity. For sure, I’m going to go out there regardless [if I’m healthy].”

The third overall pick's excitement is understandable, and it looks like he should be given a clean bill of health well before All-Star Weekend. Barrett may be able to return as early as Thursday against the Orland Magic.

The Knicks rookie also described what he has been going through of late, saying that he is being patient on his road to recovery:

“I’ve heard your first ankle sprain, it’ll take a little time,” Barrett said. “You get used to it. I guess a couple of bumps in the road at the beginning. Some days you feel good and you want to do more, but you’ve still got to go with the pace and go with the flow and just make sure that you’re fully 100 percent.”

Barrett has had a so-so rookie campaign thus far, averaging 14.1 points (on 39.3 percent shooting), 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and a steal in 41 starts for New York.
