The NBA Draft is just a few weeks away, but the New York Knicks are reportedly still undecided on who they're gonna select with the third overall pick. Most mock drafts have them selecting Duke product RJ Barrett, but the Knicks' front office is weighing all their options — including the possibility of trading down in the draft.
But for Dwayne Washington, former AAU coach of Barrett, the Knicks would make a huge mistake if they don't select him with the third pick. In an interview with The Athletic's Chris Kirschner, Washington said that New York will benefit a lot from drafting Barrett because he brings a lot to the table. He added that passing on the one-and-done Blue Devil would make other teams laugh on them.
“This is my thing, mess around and not take RJ, and you’re going to complain for the next 10 years about how the Knicks messed it up. Hindsight is always 20/20. What happens is people create these narratives without actually doing the research. The smart organizations see value when others don’t.”
There is no denying that Barrett is a talented player, and some experts are even saying that he's the best player in this year's draft and not Zion Williamson or Ja Morant. However, there might be some things that the Knicks know and we don't, or they may have something else planned for the No. 3 pick.
We'll all just have to wait and see what happens in the draft.
