The New York Knicks have announced that point guard Trey Burke suffered a mild MCL sprain in his right knee against the Milwaukee Bucks on December 1 and will be re-evaluated over the weekend.

Trey Burke has begun his rehab regimen already.

In 21 games this season, Burke is averaging 12.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The 26-year-old is shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from beyond the arc and 80.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Burke began his NBA career with the Utah Jazz in 2013 after playing his college ball at the University of Michigan. Things didn't work out for him there, though, and Utah traded him to the Washington Wizards in 2016. Burke then signed a contract with the Knicks in 2017, only to get waived three days later.

The Knicks needed point guard depth again and signed Burke to a multi-year deal in 2018. He's making $1.8 million this year.

New York is 8-17 on the season, 11th place in the Eastern Conference. It's yet another rebuilding season New York, who are playing without star power forward Kristaps Porzingis as he recovers from an ACL tear he sustained last season.

Frank Ntilikina might get back into the rotation with Burke's injury. The former first-round pick hasn't played in the last two games.
