NBA free agent Carmelo Anthony's possible reunion with the New York Knicks may indeed happen this season following a report of mutual interest between both parties. With the free agency window for the 2020-21 campaign set to open on Friday, November 20, the Knicks brass is reportedly considering bringing back Melo, who donned the Knicks colors from 2011 to t 2017. Per Ian Begley of SNY:

“I think there's going to be mutual interest there. We've talked about it for a while now. Some teams expect him to end up back in New York. I'm not going that far yet, but I'm sure that they will have discussions about Carmelo returning home to the Knicks,” Begley revealed.

Knicks fans know that after almost a year out of the league, Anthony's career gained new life last season after the Portland Trail Blazers gave him a one-year deal worth $2.15 million. The 10-time All-Star will likely have suitors once more now that he's on the market, especially after proving he still got it at 36. The 6-foot-8 forward notched 15.4 points 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 58 games, all the while shooting an efficient 43 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from distance.

Granted that Melo would likely just get another short-term, minimum deal or maybe a mid-level one from the Knicks, he'll likely relish the chance to return to his home state. Anthony was in his prime when he played in the Big Apple and tallied 24.7 points in seven seasons. However, he failed to lead the Knicks past the second round during that time.

The Knicks currently have a young core led by RJ Barrett, with incoming head coach Tom Thibodeau set to call the shots.

New York, meanwhile, does have the cap room to sign a max player this season.
