The New York Knicks' seemingly dogged pursuit of Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson could get a big kick. That's if the Knicks could pull off a trade involving Alec Burks, who is already getting interest from at least the Boston Celtics, according to NBA insider Ian Begley.

The Knicks can get to roughly $25 million if they trade Alec Burks or Nerlens Noel if they don’t take back any salary. Several teams, including the Boston Celtics, have a degree of interest in trading for Burks, per sources. The Mavericks can offer Brunson an extra year and more money than the Knicks. Dallas can offer Brunson a max deal of five years and $175 million. The Knicks can offer Brunson a max deal of four years and $131 million (that deal would start at $30.5 million).

Burks' value right now is mostly on his contract and less on what he could actually deliver on the court for a team like the Celtics. The veteran guard-forward is set to earn over $10 million in the 2022-23 NBA season and comes with a team option in the 2023-24 campaign that is worth $10.489 million. Noel, on the other hand, is due to pocket $9.24 million in the coming season with a team option for 2022-23 worth $9.68 million.

The Knicks have created a bit more cap space with all the deals they made in the 2022 NBA Draft, including a trade that sent Kemba Walker to the Detroit Pistons, and only time will tell whether all that maneuvers would actually result in New York landing Brunson.
