After the Orlando Magic decided against picking up their team option for the fourth year of his rookie deal, Mario Hezonja is now looking for a new club. According to multiple reports, Hezonja will not have a shortage of suitors, and it appears that the New York Knicks have emerged as the frontrunners to scoop up the 23-year-old forward.

However, there are some complications that need to be ironed out before a deal finally gets done. For one, New York is reportedly looking for a short-term deal — perhaps a one-year contract — in order to leave them with sufficient cap space entering the summer of 2019.

This may not be an ideal situation for Hezonja, who is surely looking for a more permanent set-up as he attempts to finally live up to all the hype surrounding him. Should a long-term deal be on the table from another team, Hezonja will surely take a long hard look at the offer.

The potential is undeniably there for the Croatian national, who was drafted fifth overall by the Magic in the 2015 NBA Draft. However, his first few years in the league have been disappointing, to say the least, after averaging just 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.9 3-pointers in three seasons with Orlando.

Should Hezonja find his form in New York, he will be adding some much needed firepower to the team. He could end up being the third option for the Knicks behind franchise player Kristaps Porzingis — who is currently still recovering from a left knee ACL tear last February — and Tim Hardaway Jr.
