After a successful season that ended their seven-year playoff drought, the New York Knicks are now looking to build further from what they have established and create a true championship contender. In fact, according to the latest rumors, they are specifically targeting Golden State Warriors swingman Kelly Oubre Jr.

Per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, the Knicks are prioritizing the acquisition of a star guard, with Damian Lillard, Lonzo Ball and Collin Sexton listed as their ideal candidates. After filling their need for the position, however, New York's  next move is said to be signing Oubre Jr. to complement the roster headed by All-Star forward Julius Randle.

The source says the Knicks are specifically interested in adding Oubre in the event they are successful acquiring a star guard via trade. The acquisition would create a more complete roster alongside Most Improved Player Julius Randle.

Kelly Oubre Jr. is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and it is unknown if he would want to return to the Warriors. While Steve Kerr said previously he would want to get the veteran forward back, he admitted that he would likely need to take a reserve role with starting shooting guard  Klay Thompson returning from Achilles injury.

With that said, Oubre Jr. is expected to explore the free agency market and see where he'll get a better role compared to what the Warriors can offer. Sure enough, the Knicks seem to be an enticing destination if the rumors prove to be true.

The Knicks have a lot of decisions to make in the offseason in their bid to maintain their playoff contender status and elevate that even more. With Randle developing into a true star, the Big Apple franchise has found someone they can build around for the future.
