Back in October, Adidas was able to sign one of the NBA's rising stars to a multi-year deal as New York Knicks‘ big man Kristaps Porzingis agreed to wear and endorse the three stripes brand.

On Thursday night, when the 7-foot-3 Latvian international visited the new Adidas store in midtown Manhattan together with his teammates, Willy Hernangomez, Kyle O'Quinn and Derrick Rose, he was asked what made him decide to choose the shoe and apparel giants over the other brands that made a pitch to him. Porzingis talked about the freedom he'll get as an athlete and made it clear that it wasn't just about the money.

“What I loved about Adidas the most is they give their athletes freedom; they let them create, they let them have a voice. In the meeting I had with them, everything I wanted to hear, I heard. It wasn’t about the money, I really felt that this was the brand for me, it felt right. I knew what I wanted at that point.”

Adidas could not have picked a better time in securing Porzingis to their fold as the second-year forward is having a hot start to the season with averages of 21.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. More importantly, he has helped the Knicks get back to .500 and are once again on track to finally make a return trip to the playoffs after years.

As Porzingis further develops his game in the NBA, Adidas will certainly be there to support him in his journey. Their partnership is a win-win situation for both parties as they will help raise each other's stock with their goal of being the best in their respective fields.
