Former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has emerged as one of the front-runners to land the recently vacated head coaching position for the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Lakers insider Brad Turner, general manager Rob Pelinka will be meeting with Lue this week in order to discuss the possibility of hiring him as the team's new head coach:

Lue actually appears to be a good fit for the Lakers. Not only has he coached LeBron James — and won an NBA title with the superstar — but also, he happens to be a former Laker himself.

Lue was drafted 23rd overall by the Denver Nuggets back in 1998, but was immediately sent to the Lakers on the same day in a deal that centered around Nick Van Exel. Lue spent the first three years of his career representing the Purple and Gold, and he memorably played a pivotal part in the team's 2000-01 season championship.

In a surprise move by then-Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, Lue was tasked to guard Philadelphia 76ers superstar Allen Iverson in that year's Finals. He actually did a pretty commendable job on Iverson, but also happened to be on the receiving end of AI's unforgettable step-over.

The Lakers are in the midst of a total overhaul following the departures of former president Magic Johnson and former head coach Luke Walton in the span of barely a week. It's going to be a very interesting summer for Los Angeles, and the signing of a new head coach definitely stands out as one of the team's most utmost priorities.
