With LeBron James on the brink of starting his legacy as part of the Los Angeles Lakers, most could not help but compare him to one of the greatest to ever put on the purple and gold — Kobe Bryant.

A Redditor that goes by the username u/quentin-coldwater has presented a very interesting statistical comparison between these two future Hall of Famers. According to the Reddit post, Bryant has recorded exactly twice as much 40+ points games in the regular season compared to James. On the other hand, when it comes to the playoffs, James' 40+ points performances are more than double of that of Bryant's.

In his 20-year career, Bryant has started a total of 1,198 regular season contests. He has scored at least 40 points on 122 separate occasions. This is far better than James' record of 61 games with 40+ points, in 1,142 starts.

In the playoffs, however, James' 27 40+ points games out of 239 starts outshines Brynt's 13 out of 200 starts.

Looking at this at face value, it would be very easy to assume that James is a better performer when it comes to the posteason. Perhaps the fact that LeBron is known to pace himself during the regular season has paid dividends in this regard.

It is also worth noting that James currently has only 15 seasons under his belt against Bryant's 20 seasons. James recently signed a four-year deal with the Lakers, which means that he still has at least four more seasons to improve on these statistics presented.

At the end of the day though, these are merely numbers. These in no way prove that James is a better player overall compared to Bryant, or vice versa.

The bigger picture is much more important. It's about how much these two superstars are able to contribute to the Lakers as an organization, as well as to the sport of basketball in general.
