Montrezl Harrell may or may not be cryptically complaining about his recent playing time ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ Game 3 contest versus the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night.

Harrell's Instagram account posted an image showing Harrell strolling into Staples Center with a black Broken Promises (I think) hoodie wrapped about his waist that read: “Don't get emotional it's only Broken Promises.”

Trezz captioned the image with the message:

“I trust no one promises are only open high risk for letdowns!”

Harrell has a habit of posting cryptic messages on social media, so his fashion choice and caption could have zero subtext.

On the other hand, Harrell was a healthy scratch from the Lakers' Game 2 win on Tuesday, when Marc Gasol (20 minutes) earned the backup center minutes. Trez scored 12 points in 15 minutes in Game 1. Predictably, he was one of the few Lakers who played with appropriate energy.

On paper, the Suns, without a backup center, seemed to present a favorable matchup for the undersized Harrell. Following his DNP on Tuesday (and the Los Angeles Clippers' loss to the Dallas Mavericks), Harrell posted this message to Twitter:

In general, Harrell's playing time has decreased since Andre Drummond came aboard in late March. He averaged 25.3 minutes per game in 47 games prior to Drummond's debut, but that has dropped to 17.8 MPG since.

Frank Vogel's center rotation — and the motivating factors behind it — has been a heavily scrutinized subplot over the past few months, and that has only continued into the postseason. We'll see what's in store for Game 3.
