The Los Angeles Lakers will be without one of their top guards for a while. It was announced after the game against the Portland Trail Blazers that Rajon Rondo broke his hand at some point during the contest.

This is a huge blow to the team as Rajon Rondo is one of the many key veterans they signed during the summer to help this young team. Rondo is an important piece, whether he starts or comes off the bench.

Prior to the game against the Blazers, Rajon Rondo had averages of 9.3 points, 6.8 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. He's also shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point distance.

The Lakers have played extremely well as of late, going undefeated since signing veteran big man Tyson Chandler who was waived by the Phoenix Suns. They have won four straight and improved their win-loss record to 8-6 on the season.

Rondo's loss will greatly affect the Lakers more than people realize. He has been the key motor that made the second unit run efficiently.

This comes at an absolutely terrible timing for the Lakers as they are now forced to maintain their momentum without a major stabilizing force such as Rajon Rondo.
