The Los Angeles Lakers have kicked off their title defense with six wins in their first nine games. Their strong start has been a concerted effort from the entire squad — led by their two superstars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, of course. Nevertheless, role players such as Talen Horton-Tucker have been key to L.A.'s success early in the season, which is why Lakers head coach Frank Vogel had nothing but good things to say about the second-year shooting guard.

Speaking to the media on Friday, coach Vogel explained just how impressed he has been with Horton-Tucker this term (h/t Ryan Ward of Lakers Daily):

After playing just six games for the Lakers last season as a rookie, Horton-Tucker made a significant impact in Los Angeles' preseason run, prompting Vogel to insert him into the rotation for the new season. THT has answered the call and has put up averages of 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 16.1 minutes per contest. Horton-Tucker is by no means a star, but he's been quite effective in the role that he has been provided with thus far.

Lakers swingman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is currently dealing with a sprained left ankle and could miss a couple more games. This injury could provide Horton-Tucker with a bit more playing time, and it will be interesting to see how he'll respond to this opportunity.
