On Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski appeared on SportsCenter and told the world that Klay Thompson would have interest in signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. This would only happen, though, if they acquired Anthony Davis and if there was a near-max slot open for his services. This is also assuming the Golden State Warriors wouldn't be offering Thompson the max to stay in the Bay Area.

The internet blew up on Monday when Anthony Davis' agent announced that he would like to be traded away from the New Orleans Pelicans. Everyone on the internet was shocked that Davis finally voiced his concerns.

Everyone began to wonder where Davis would be traded. The two top teams seemed to be the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

However, the Celtics cannot acquire Anthony Davis in a trade due to Kyrie Irving. They both signed their contract extensions under the “Rose Rule” because it allows players coming off of their rookie contracts to earn 30 percent of the salary cap instead of the usual 25.

Per the CBA, one team cannot have more than one player on the “Rose Rule” under contract at one time.

The Celtics would have to extend Kyrie Irving before free agency kicked off if they were to attempt to trade for Davis. This makes it difficult because per reports from Woj, Irving is leaning towards leaving Boston altogether.

The Los Angeles Lakers could put together an offer including Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, and draft picks that may get a deal done. They have no contract limitations, unlike the Celtics.

Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James would be a wonderful big three in Los Angeles moving forward. That team would be an instant title contender.
