The Los Angeles Lakers are taking on the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena on Saturday, and while Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson was at the free-throw line, Lakers fans started chanting, “We want Thompson.”
As we all know, Laker fans travel deep. Klay Thompson will become an unrestricted free agent after this season and, for some reason, has been linked to joining LeBron James in Los Angeles despite the sharpshooter consistently saying he wants to retire with Golden State.
Thompson's comments aren't going to stop Laker fans from recruiting, though. This is as bold as it gets. Chanting for a home player to come to your team while on the road is something that's rarely seen.
There's speculation that if the Warriors don't offer Klay Thompson the max, he might take a free agent meeting with the Lakers and see what they could offer him. Warriors superstar Kevin Durant can also become a free agent after this season and Golden State has to figure out a way to keep KD and Klay.
One thing we know is that LeBron would love to play with Thompson. Klay is one of the best shooters in NBA history and would get so many wide-open looks playing alongside James, who is an elite passer and collapses the paint so well on his drives to the basket.
It will be interesting to see what Thompson says about the “We want Thompson” chants from Laker fans.
