The Detroit Lions fell to 3-9-1 with their loss on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, but Matt Patricia thinks they are a better team than their record says. After the game, Patricia said his team knows they are better than what the record says, and now they are trying to pick up the wins to prove it.

“The hard thing for us, what I appreciate about this team is we don’t look at our record and say, ‘This is what we are,'” Patricia said, via Chris Burke of TheAthletic.com. “I think we look at our record and say, ‘That’s not what we are,’ and we gotta do better and try to figure out how to get the record to match up with what we are. I think that’s where we’re struggling right now.”

There is no doubt that Matthew Stafford's injury has hurt the team, but they were also losing games with him under center. Stafford also doesn't have any effect on the defense and Patricia is a defense-first guy. The Lions' pass defense is ranked 30th in the league and their total points allowed is 24th.

There is no guarantee that Patricia's job is safe beyond this year, so it makes sense that he is trying to talk the team up as much as possible, but he needs this team to show signs of improvement, and probably a couple of wins the next couple of weeks.

The Lions finish up their season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, and the Green Bay Packers.
