The only permanent thing with the Detroit Lions is change. After another disappointing season in spite of their terrific start, it's back to the drawing board for the team. However, it may look like they will have to rebuild their future without Matthew Stafford.

The 31-year-old pass-caller was decent for the Lions this season, but his large salary may not serve the Lions' best interests to retool this season. Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that there are rumors of him possibly departing the team in the offseason.

It would make sense if Stafford did decide to walk away from the only team he's ever known. He's given a lot of his talent and energy to the team, but they've never progressed past the Wild Card during his tenure as the quarterback. The Lions have failed to provide him with a potent offense and a sturdy defense to help him win games.

He will be a great addition to any team that will be fortunate to get him. While his performances in 2019 were atrocious, he's shown a track record of being a quality starting QB.

However, the Lions will be doing everything they can to keep him.

Per Andrew Holleran of The Spun:

“Yeah, I’m totally comfortable and happy that Matthew Stafford’s our quarterback,” Quinn told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on SiriusXM NFL radio. “He’s going to be in full health once the offseason program starts its course. He’s pretty much at full health. Talked to him about 10 days ago. He was in the office, so he’s feeling great, he’s in a good mindset. He’s excited.”

The offseason will be interesting for Lions fans. They will be hoping that their franchise QB doesn't leave them in the offseason to join and thrive with a contender.
