It appears that the Detroit Lions are looking to deal away some of their key pieces this offseason. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions have talked to several teams about trading star cornerback Darius Slay.

There were also reports that the Lions have been exploring a Matthew Stafford trade. However, the franchise has since denied the rumors about their starting quarterback.

On the other hand, Detroit has yet to deny the reports about Slay.

Any team that trades for Slay will likely have to sign the Pro-Bowl corner to a new deal as the four-year, $48 million deal that Slay signed in 2016 is set to expire after next season.

A second-round pick in 2013, the former Mississippi State defensive back has transformed into a lockdown corner for the Lions. The 29-year-old has made the Pro-Bowl in three consecutive seasons including a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2017.

This season, Slay recorded 46 tackles, 13 passes defended, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Slay would be the second defensive back to be traded by the Lions in the last year as the team traded starting safety Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks in October. The Lions acquired a fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft in return for Diggs and a seventh-round pick.

As far as the Lions as a whole, the team was largely disappointing in 2019. Major injuries to Stafford and second-year running back Kerryon Johnson certainly didn't help but Detroit would lose 12 of their last 13 games after starting the season 2-0-1.

If Slay is traded, the Lions, who own the third overall pick in the upcoming draft, will likely look at Ohio State corner Jeff Okudah who is widely considered the top player at his position.
