Getting that revered gem-mint grade from any card authenticating and grading company is definitely a dream come true for any card collector. But more often than not, most of these submissions end up with a 9, or even lower. That's why there are some in the hobby who go on purchasing gem-mint slabs, crack them open, and submit them to their preferred grader. And while this is considered a very risky move, it didn't deter Logan Paul from doing it on his beloved Pokemon Charizard card.

In a video shared by Find Your Trove on Instagram, Logan Paul recently recounted how he decided to crack a PSA 10 slab containing a first edition Pokemon card featuring Charizard and submit it to BGS. He starts his story by wondering if he could crack the said graded card open to get a better grade, even at the risk of losing money.

Paul stated that cracking a PSA slab is no walk in the park as it involves wire cutters and screwdrivers to get the $150,000 Pokemon card inside. The social media personality added that even if he does one thing wrong which would lead to him damaging the card, that's automatically a $100,000 down the drain.

But even with all of the risks involved, Paul went ahead and cracked the PSA slab open to get his first edition Charizard card from it. Right after, he went on to submit it to BGS, where it obtained a gem-mint grade of 10. As it turns out, the risk Paul took elevated the Pokemon card's value from $150,000 to $1 million dollars.

While PSA 10 slabs are considered as the standard in the hobby over BGS 9.5 and SGC 10 graded cards, a pristine BGS 10, especially those with perfect 10 subgrades, is more valuable in the market. Of course, the most expensive of its kind also belongs to Paul, who recently wore his graded Pokemon card worth $5.2 million, when he appeared for a match in Wrestlemania 38.

Of course, for every success story, keep in mind that there are a lot of failed attempts to crack a slab open to get a higher grade. In Paul's case, his insane move certainly paid off with his Pokemon card's value drastically jumping up.
