Since the Los Angeles Lakers laid claim on the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the team has been heavily linked to UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball.

It had been revealed last week that the Lakers were working toward planning a workout with the 19-year-old. In light of that, ESPN is reporting that team has indeed scheduled an individual workout with Ball next week.

Former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball is expected to work out for the Los Angeles Lakers on June 7, a source confirmed to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

It should be noted that no other player will be involved in Ball's workout with the Lakers. He is also expected to speak with the coaching staff and front-office personnel during his visit. Earlier reports indicated that Ball was initially slated for a workout on June 9.

Although the draft is still nearly a month away, there is a strong belief that Los Angeles will select Ball if he is still on the board at number two. In line with that notion, both Team President Magic Johnson and General Manager Rob Pelinka have spoken highly of the UCLA product.

Ball is coming off a strong freshman season where he led the nation with 7.6 assists per game while breaking the school’s single-season record with 274 assists. He was also the first player in the Pac-12 to average at least 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game since Jason Kidd did so in the 1992-93 season at the University of California, Berkeley.

All of these only furthers the presumption that the Lakers will take Ball with their selection next month.
