Louisville has announced that the only two remaining assistant coaches on the staff in the era of Rick Pitino, Jordan Fair and Kenny Johnson, have been placed on paid administrative leave as the school continues to investigate their involvement in allegations made in last week’s FBI complaint.

Jordan Fair had been with the program for just over a year after being hired away from Oldsmar Christian, a high school in Florida.

As for Kenny Johnson, he was with the Cardinals as an assistant since 2014, when he was hired away from another Adidas school, Indiana.

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was put on unpaid leave on Sept. 27.

“We are in the process of executing our due diligence as it relates to an ongoing investigation and feel that this an appropriate step at this time,” Louisville interim athletic director Vince Tyra said. “Our university will continue to fully cooperate with federal authorities in their investigation.”

None of this is terribly shocking. What was a relative surprise was the Cardinals hiring within the program at all, when they announced David Padgett would be the interim head coach. Most sane people assumed the fallout of the FBI probe would result in a clean sweep of everyone on the Louisville basketball staff.

As for our neighborhood friendly Rick Pitino, he has been firm and steadfast in his complete innocence in this entire debacle. With two of his former staff members now paying the price, it will be interesting of the coach releases yet another statement. This time, you know, to defend someone other than himself.
