The Malika Andrews takeover has begun. The rising star reporter is set to host ESPN's new studio show entitled NBA Today. The new offering will virtually be replacing The Jump, which was previously hosted by Rachel Nichols.

Malika Andrews took to Twitter with a simple 3-word reaction, then later on followed up with a more full-length message on the announcement.

Via Tom Tapp of Deadline:

“It’s an incredible time to cover the NBA – a league that is full of characters and stories that have resonance far beyond the sports world,” Malika Andrews said from a statement released by ESPN. “Our goal every day is to deliver information and analysis to our viewers that can’t be gleaned anywhere else. I’m so excited to showcase the league and the talented reporters, analysts and insiders on our team.”

Former frontwoman Rachel Nichols was embroiled in a months-long controversy after her comments disparaging her ex-colleague Maria Taylor. The scandal soon led to Taylor leaving ESPN entirely and the eventual announcement of the  cancellation of The Jump in late August and now the new show headed by Malika Andrews.

Nichols posted a heartfelt message after the news.

“Got to create a whole show and spend five years hanging out with some of my favorite people … The Jump was never built to last forever but it sure was fun.”
